Smoky, Sweet and has a little Heat … this is my favorite Ketchup based BBQ sauce. Like that one commercial says.. “I put that Shit on everything”… that little old Frank’s Hot Sauce lady is smart … here is something you actually MAY want to put on everything. It stores in the fridge for up to a week, and like most things, it only gets better with age. I have also had luck freezing smaller batches for later use. It is not nearly as BA-BAM but it still tastes pretty stinking delish.
Makes about 3 cups
1 Tblsp Butter
1 Medium Shallot minced
1 Clove Garlic Minced
½ Cup Bourbon
1 Bottle of Really Awesome Coffee Stout beer – I use Evolution Craft Brewing’s RISE UP
1 Cup Ketchup
2 Tblsp Worchestershire Sauce
¼ Cup Soy Sauce
1 tsp Red Pepper Flakes
1 tsp Smoked Paprika
¾ Cup Packed Brown Sugar
1 tsp Liquid Smoke
In a saucepan, heat the butter and quickly sauté the Minced Shallot and Garlic over medium heat until slightly translucent.
Add in the Bourbon and let liquid slightly reduce. Add in all other ingredients and bring to a light simmer over medium heat.
Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 20 minutes stirring here and there until fully combined.
Remove from heat, let cool (duh) and then transfer to the container of your choice. I usually opt for a good old fashioned easy peasy Mason Jar.
P.S. Did you know that they now actually make POUR SPOUT LIDS for Mason Jars! Yep… awesome-sauce.
