I’m going to be perfectly honest… It’s Monday night and I am finally sitting down to write this because, all of a sudden, it dawned on me… it’s MONDAY and I have NOTHING written… kind of the same way I finally remembered at midday on Sunday that the Witzend Wee ones didn’t have school today. Actually, that’s a lie, I had NO IDEA that the kids had Monday off until a midday Sunday convo with a fellow parent… I mean, DUH, “Brain Fart Express” ticket for ONE please!?
Truthfully, it’s been a whirlwind few weeks, and I knew the day would come when I would struggle to hold up my end of the “Blogger” bargain- consistency. Don’t get me wrong, the chaos is self-inflicted… Holiday madness, an onslaught of Christmas decor preparations that have resulted in my fingers being possibly permanently splattered in “Liquid Leaf” and my kitchen countertops covered in glue gun poo. There is a reason why truly committed Bloggers start preparations in October… ’cause there’s just SOOOO FRIGGIN MUCH TO DO. Confession: I’m just not there (yet). Best laid plans I suppose but also, LIFE. It may also explain why my mantle garland is still not completely leveled. What’evs.
One of my favorite IG friends Aly joking refers to moments like this as suffering from GMAT. A test? Maybe. But more like Getting My Act Together. It happens. Sh*t happens actually. Actually, when is it NOT happening!? We all have our lives to live, our sanity to preserve, and laundry lists of projects in the works, many of which will never be accomplished, and the day-to-day constantly evolving around us. It’s called “LIFE” and “REALITY”. And REALITY is that while you are scrolling past slightly crafted close ups of Christmas ‘in the works’ at Witzend just past the purview of each frame you would actually see crocs on the floor, kids plugged into iPads, the pillows that the dogs have (once again) knocked off of every single piece of paw print covered furniture and a never ending pile of laundry (it’s mostly folded btw, I swear).
So while I would VERY much prefer to spend my waking hours posting my multiple planned tablescapes, crafty mamajama tutorials and immaculate Christmas decor to ogle, we have Hockey practice. I have to figure out what the Kindergarten Holiday Party is going to entail. I have to actually BUY Christmas presents (including my own), Birthday presents (including my own), and “Thanks for having our circus invade your home” presents. OH, and finally cut back my peonies that have been neglected since the first frost.
I am sure there will be a brilliant light bulb moment forthcoming, some eye candy and witty banter too boot. And my mantle will finally be finished (and maybe level) and so will the rest of our Christmas decor (for this year). The table MIGHT be fully set (for 4!! dinner parties) and Heck, I may even get around to cleaning up the remnants of my crafty AF explosions and be able to pan back to share with you a broader view. But, until then you can find me at the ice rink cheering on the boys, gluing boxwood and ribbon to everything that stands still, consistently ironing napkins and polishing flatware with my Dremel (seriously, have you ever had to polish Derilyte!?). And you can feel good in knowing that at least I remembered to shower and put on pants… today.
Cheers to GMAT, keeping our priorities in check, to life, to surviving one day at a time and the heavenly onslaught of the Christmas season my dear friends!
XO,
Pippa
